We are also one of the highest taxed states, often ranked in the top 7 year in and year out, which means that Wisconsin's residents have a greater tax burden than almost 90% of the rest of the country. (Source: data from the Bureau of Economic analysis, Department of commerce.) Any way that I can responsibly and prudently reduce taxes (for individuals and businesses) and make the state more self-sufficient, I will. One tax change that I would work for immediately is eliminating property taxes for anyone 65 years old and older. I find it wrong that people who retired and worked so many years have to sell or lose their homes due to the inability to pay their property taxes. I believe that by cutting government spending that is imprudent, wasteful, or actually harmful, that tax money can stay in your own hands to use as you see fit.
